Course Detail: MOTHEREARTH - Mother Earth in the Decades Ahead

Geography and culture are two broad areas of study that help clarify and bring insight into what may lie ahead for humankind of the years remaining in the 21st century. Using a series of lectures titled "Understanding Cultural and Human Geography" by Professor Paul Robbins of the University of Wisconsin as a guide, we will discuss the following topics: 1 - Restless Humanity, the Migration Conundrum; 2 - Urbanization: The Rise of World Cities; 3 - Understanding Cultural Geography, the Importance of Place; 4 - Regionalism and the Rise of New States; and 5 - Supranationalism and the Taking On of Big Problems. Finally, we will consider what geography may foretell about future economic and global power.
