This class will cover the air war in Western Europe from 1939-1942. We will look at the weapons, tactics, strategies, and leaders of the air war. We will cover the Blitzkrieg in Poland, Norway, the Low Countries, and France, also the role that was played by air power, and the importance of the Battle of Britain and the Blitz will be discussed. Finally, we will touch on the role of air power in the war at sea and the United States entry into the war in Europe. The class will be taught by Jim Reha, a retired history teacher and OLLI member. Part II will be offered in the fall session of classes.
