Saginaw has a rich history of African American "firsts," with remarkable contributions to the development of the Saginaw Valley in the late 1800s. In this engaging session, explore the stories of Saginaw and Bay City's first African American residents, a pioneering professional photographer, a wealthy lumber mill owner and politician, a physician, a lawyer and Howard University graduate, and local Civil War soldiers. You'll also learn about historic visits from Frederick Douglass and Sojourner Truth, along with other influential figures who shaped the region.
