Course Detail: WTED850 - Methods of Teaching Secondary Special Education Mathematics

This 45-hour course meets 1 day a week for 8 weeks. As a result of this training educators will be able to engage with effective mathematical instructional strategies  aligned to grade-level standards that include real-world tasks, mathematical discourse, and application of mathematical understanding; reflect on dispositions about teaching and learning mathematics that express all students can think mathematically and are able to solve sophisticated mathematical problems with effort to promote equitable access and cultivate positive student mathematical identities; develop and reflect on the effectiveness of a variety of formative and summative assessments and how to adjust instruction based on assessment data; reflect on real-world applications that can be represented by multiple mathematical models and students' conceptions and misconceptions of those models with possible interventions; analyze mathematical standards progressions and explain how standard strands are connected and affect a student's conceptual understandings from the previous course and upcoming course(s) to build student skills; describe how integrating chosen technology strategies aligns with best practices in mathematics technology and evaluate how this enhances student learning.

Schedule: Course is hybrid format (Online + Webinar). Webinar meetings are scheduled every Wednesday from October 29th to December 3rd, 2025 from 4:30pm to 7:30 pm. You will have until December 9th to complete your course work. Check for assignment dates in Canvas.
