Course Detail: WTEE350 - Energy Efficient Lighting

This 60-hour course meets 1 day a week for 4-hours over 15 weeks. As a result of this training students will be able to Evaluate various quantitative and qualitative characteristics of light sources and luminaries, assess illumination levels and lighting quality metrics using industry standard methodology, demonstrate basic lighting control strategies to achieve energy efficient and effective luminous environments, formulate an energy and cost savings plan utilizing various lighting measures, applications, approaches, and strategies and, locate federal and state legislation related to, and define terminology used in, the lighting industry.

Schedule: This course is a 16-week synchronous hybrid Canvas course that utilizes in-person in-class sessions, live Zoom webinars, and approximately 12 hours of additional online content in Canvas.**Canvas access is available Tuesday 8/26/2025 through Wednesday 12/10/2025. **Live Zoom Webinars will begin Wednesday 08/27/2025 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Participants will access Zoom through Canvas, and will have access to a recording of each session the following week. **Group lighting audit projects and presentations will be conducted in-person in MFEC206.

This course prepares participants for tasks related to energy efficient lighting. Participants will complete group and individual projects based on practical field lighting evaluations. Lighting audit projects will be presented in-person during the final sessions. **Students should purchase the Fundamentals of Lighting manual for Students from the Illumination Engineering Society for approximately $125.00 https://store.ies.org/product/fol-23-fundamentals-of-lighting-student-materials/?v=0b3b97fa6688. **Students will also need a web enabled device to utilize the ComCheck, and MLO011 software for use in class. **This is a 16-week synchronous hybrid Canvas course that utilizes in-person in-class sessions, live Zoom webinars, and online course content in Canvas.
