PreCollege: Stand Up Comedy Workshop
In this three hour workshop, students will learn to analyze stand up comedy performances to identify the formal components of joke writing and joke telling - "setups", "punchlines", and "tags", and the underlying comedic devices that link these structures together. Students will engage in freewriting exercises and brainstorming activities in order to generate their own joke premises, and use what they learned in their analysis to structure their own original jokes. Students will practice performance warm ups and at the end the class by performing what they've written.
