AOPM - Alternatives to Opioids for Pain Management

Content will emphasize evidence-based interventions for common pain conditions for which opioids are still commonly prescribed. Interventions include acupuncture, exercise, massage therapy, manipulative therapy, yoga, and mind-body therapies. This module includes evidence on the safety and effectiveness of NPT for pain, detailed explanations and demonstrations of interventions, the principles of a stepwise approach to pain management, cultural competence in trauma-informed care.

Learning Objectives:
? Educate providers about safe and effective non-pharmacological treatments (NPT) for pain.
? Understand the knowledge and skills needed for collaborative care of Minnesotans living with pain and at risk of unnecessary opioid use.
? Identify nonpharmacologic treatment options as alternatives to opioids for the management of pain.
