Certified Recovery Support Specialist Success Program

Course Description: 
The Recovery Support Specialist Training Program will provide high-quality recovery support training and prepare individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges, substance use, or co-occurring conditions to support others in their recovery journeys.  Coordinated by post-secondary educational institutions for individuals with lived experience of mental health, substance use, or co-occurring mental health and substance use recovery.

The 3-course program contains 135 hours of classroom education over three consecutive sessions:

  • Session 1: Fundamentals of Substance Use, Mental Health and Peer Recovery Support
  • Session 2: Peer Recovery Support: Models, Skills and Practices
  • Session 3: Application to Diverse Populations and Across Settings

Course material meets the education requirements for the NAADAC NCPRSS credential, the ICB CRSS credential and the ICB CPRS credential.  Students will be provided with documentation that can be submitted for appropriate certifications.  

Courses will follow a hybrid format.  Synchronous online sessions will be held on Mondays from 6:00-9:00 pm, in-person sessions will be held on Saturdays at the Governors State University camps from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm.  Students will be required to access and complete coursework using the Blackboard platform.  

All registrations must be approved before enrolling by GSU's Addictions Program.
