African Americans have composed, performed and influenced music since before the American Civil War. Participants will have the opportunity to listen to and explore various popular musical genres. There will be four sessions: the first will highlight classical composers, followed by Jazz, then Rhythm and Blues/Ragtime, and lastly Gospel/Country. We will enjoy listening to vocal groups such as the Temptations, the Four Tops, the Supremes and Gladys Knight and the Pips, and instrumental/vocal groups Earth, Wind and Fire, Kool and the Gang and the Commodores as well as solo artists. Time will even be allotted to take requests! Singalongs will also be encouraged.
