Micro Course Information: CMSP181 - Presentations and Public Speaking

Do you ever wish you could feel more confident when giving presentations or speaking up in a large group?


In this micro course, you will learn how to plan for and give a compelling oral presentation and how to be more effective at public speaking. We will break down each stage of the presentation process, including planning, drafting, revising, and performing, to help you enhance your ability to craft an effective presentation (for virtual or in-person settings) or speak in various workplace situations with confidence. You will also explore strategies for effective delivery and responding to audience questions.


After successfully completing this micro course, you'll be able to:    

  • - Recognize the elements of an effective presentation.
  • - Examine the presentation planning process.
  • - Apply presentation "thought work" to a future presentation.
  • - Apply tools of effective rhetoric to presentations.
  • - Use effective visual tools in presentations. 
  • - Plan for and mitigate contingencies that may occur during a presentation. 

Micro Course Outline:


Unit 1 - Explore the building blocks for creating a compelling and engaging presentation while analyzing and connecting with your audience.

   

Unit 2 - Begin to draft your presentation by building the outline and script, and learn practical preparation steps for delivering a presentation.


Unit 3 - Explore the power of visual aids and how to use them successfully in your presentations.  


Unit 4 - Learn techniques for managing the unexpected, whether that's stage fright, technical difficulties, or fielding tough questions. By the end of this micro course, you will be able to put together a coherent presentation for your audience and have the confidence needed to be a dynamic and persuasive public speaker. 


This micro course is 100% online, features 15 hours of engaging content, and is self-paced during the course start open and close dates.
