T&L 2900: Student Teacher Cooperating Teacher
Depending on the length of the student teaching, there are three ways to earn 1 credit. Below you will find the breakdown of everything the cooperating teacher will need to complete to earn 1 credit for their student teaching length.
Assignment Breakdown
- STOT Training (1 hour)
This training will walk through the process of completing the STOT and ensure the reliability of the assessment from person to person. It has videos examples of teachers and asks the participant to rate that teacher based on a standard. It will then explain the reason for the score for complete understanding.
- Cooperating Teacher Training (3 hours)
These three modules will guide the participants on what to do before, during, and completing their mentorship. Each module is broken down into readings, videos, and reflective assignments for the participants to demonstrate what they have learned.
- Teacher Talk (1.5 hours)
Teacher Talk is a reflective exercise to be completed by the participants. Teacher Talk will have the participants reflecting and sharing on mentoring strategies, feedback on evaluations, and guidance moving forward.
- Early Observation and Level 4 Disposition (2 hours each)
The directions for these observations are completed in the Cooperating Teacher Training. The participant with observe the student teaching a lesson. They will then sit with the student and UND supervisor to complete each observation giving feedback and directions on each of the standards on the observation.
- Midterm STOT and Final STOT (2.5 hours each)
Here is where the participants will put into practice the STOT Training. The participant will observe the student teaching a lesson. They will then sit with the student and UND supervisor to complete each observation giving feedback and directions on each of the standards on the observation.
- Cooperating Teaching Reflection (1 hour)
Reflecting on their experiences with student teachers is crucial for professional growth and enhancing the teaching practice. They will be asked to reflect on the following topics: Observation and Feedback, Mentorship and Support, Professional Development, Challenges and Solutions, and Overall Impact.
- Article Reflection* (4 hours)
*This assignment will be completed by anyone who will be completing the 8- or 10-week option. This assignment will replace two of the observations. The participant will read two articles focused on mentoring student teachers and then complete a reflection on each article.
