UMBC's Data Science Academy curriculum was created to spark an interest in high school students who want to learn more about this expanding field. The data science program is an overview to topics discussed in introductory data science and statistics courses. This program was designed to provide students with exposure to a wide variety of topics that will prepare them for AP Statistics course, elements of a high school programming course and a college level data science course. This program gives students an edge with critical skills that colleges and employers see as essential in almost every math, science, computer and engineering field. GAME BUILDING WITH PYTHON: This course serves as an introduction to learning how to program using the Python programming language: one of the most popular programming languages used in real-world projects. DATA SCIENCE II: As we move into the twenty-first century, the need for workers with advanced understanding and experience in data science is vital. In this second course, (only available for students who have taken Data Science and the Power of Statistics) you will learn to create advanced visualizations, develop a web application to visualize graphics dynamically and manipulate data with top of the line tools. This class is being offered after numerous requests by students to go deeper into the materials.

Chemical engineering has a wide range of applications outside of conventional petroleum refining. Breakthroughs in pharmaceutical drug delivery, chemical production, water treatment, and air pollution are some of the cutting-edge applications being developed every day. Students will spend the week conducting hands-on experiments and demonstrations highlighting the field's versatility. Students will learn about materials and energy balance fundamentals, chemical reactions, and the numerous areas in which they are used. SUSTAINABLE DESIGN AND ENGINEERING: How to Build and Race a Kinetic Sculpture How do a group of students design, build and race a bicycle powered work of art that can float, go through sand and mud, and survive 15 miles of Baltimore roads? It all starts with the plan and a great design. This workshop will engage creative students in building the model prototype and challenge them to work as a group to propose the kinetic sculpture design for UMBC students to build during the Fall 2022 semester.

This annual gathering allows everyone ranging from beginners to seasoned hackers to explore technology and develop their skills as engineers, designers, and creators. Registered students will receive hands on instruction and mentoring in closed sessions from industry experts, access to complimentary workshops such as app and chat and chatbot development.
