Course Detail: RDCT102 - Redesigning Design: Assessing Access - (Middle School) IN-PERSON

Redesigning Design: Assessing Access:

Have you ever thought about who the world was designed for? Learn what it's like to design the world for and from different perspectives. We will critically evaluate our surroundings and generate STEAM-based solutions to create a more ability-aware world. Students will work throughout the week on identifying, sketching, and designing a solution to boost accessibility in the world. In this course, you will learn about accessibility in all its forms. We will understand unique, less visible considerations, such as neurological, physical, and hidden illnesses and dis/abilities through hands-on simulations.

We will spend the first half of the week developing in-depth understanding and critical thinking, and then the second half of the week doing a hands-on, implementation focus. Students will gain critical thinking skills, the ability to identify a problem and think through a solution, and project design management skills.

Join us for an on-campus symposium at the end of the week to see all of the student solutions!

LUNCH: Students staying for full day or for both morning and afternoon sessions can bring or buy their lunch.  All students will eat lunch on Campus in The Commons, a small food court.
