Bioterrorism 2022 Simulation: The year is 2022 and you have just been exposed to a bio agent in a bioterrorist attack. Who do you call? How do you protect yourself and your home or environment? Students identify and learn about the agencies responding to a bioterrorist attack. They develop their own plan and will be able to differentiate between a bioterrorist versus a terrorist attack. This hands-on course brings in industry experts from the field of bioterrorism and creates a fun learning platform... (and great dinner conversation each night!)

Bioterrorism 2022 Simulation: The year is 2022 and you have been exposed to a bio agent in a bioterrorist attack. The agent can cause widespread sickness and possibly death, which results in creating immense panic and unimaginable fear. As a result, society has been disrupted in a short period of time.The SEA virtual, one-week-long virtual summer program invites HS students to examinethe potential threats of bioterrorism, the agents that could be exploited, andthe national law enforcement and public health agencies involved in preparedness and mitigation. Students will explore the real-world problem of bioterrorism and showcase their knowledge in a final project (Individual or Group) with a Virtual Project Presentation. Breakthroughs in drug delivery, chemical manufacturing, water cleanup and air pollution are only a few of the cutting edge applications coming out everyday. Students will spend a week conducting hands-on experiments and demonstrations that highlight the versatility of the field. Students will be introduced to fundamentals of material and energy balances, chemical reactions, and the many areas they are used. The class will also explore how these concepts can be applied to environmental and biochemical engineering.

DATA SCIENCE I: Data Science is currently one of the fastest growing fields in the world. Employers want to make evidence based decisions which requires data manipulation and analysis. Many high schools have not made or are not equipped to handle this transition towards data science. UMBC's Data Science Academy curriculum was created to spark an interest in high school students who want to learn more about this expanding field. The data science program is an overview to topics discussed in introductory data science and statistics courses. This program was designed to provide students with exposure to a wide variety of topics that will prepare them for AP Statistics course, elements of a high school programming course and a college level data science course. This program gives students an edge with critical skills that colleges and employers see as essential in almost every math, science, computer and engineering field. In DATA SCIENCE I students develop the ability to mine, manipulate and visualize data. Learn how to extract data from websites such as Wikipedia, GitHub and other data science websites.

DATA SCIENCE II: As we move into the twenty-first century, the need for workers with advanced understanding and experience in data science is vital. FINANCIAL LITERACY AND INVESTMENT STRATEGY: In the Financial Literacy and Investment Strategy class, students get a chance to try their own hand at what it is like investing money. Students will increase their knowledge of financial literacy by examining various real world scenarios and investment strategies. Throughout the session, the class explores ways to invest money. Students role up their sleeves and jump right in, as they take part in a stock market game competition. To make the competition even more fun, the winners of the stock market game will earn Amazon gift cards!

GAMING DESIGN FOR ARTIST: Transform your passion for art and gaming into new tech skills while you create your own video game. Building new computer games takes cooperation between lots of different people with different skills. LEADERSHIP: SOCIAL JUSTICE, RACE AND DIALOGUEThis course is designed for high school students who have a deep interest in issues related to race, social justice, power, privilege, oppression, intercultural dialogue, and the ways theseissues influence our leadership abilities and interests.By focusing on how we think and talk about social justice broadly, including race and other intersecting social identities in the United States, participantswill deepen their understanding and simultaneously learn techniques to engage in constructive conversations and critical dialogues across difference.This course is dialogue-based, using cultural storytelling,podcasts and other forms of media to explore theimpact dialoguecan have on social change.In this course, students will not only practice social justice dialogue skills, they will also deepen their ability to facilitate difficult dialogues with peers across difference. This week-long course is modeled after a First-Year Seminar at UMBC and gives students a unique way to experience a college classroom. SUSTAINABLE DESIGN AND ENGINEERING: How to Build and Race a Kinetic Sculpture How do a group of students design, build and race a bicycle powered work of art that can float, go through sand and mud, and survive 15 miles of Baltimore roads? It all starts with the plan and a great design. This workshop will engage creative students in building the model prototype and challenge them to work as a group to propose the kinetic sculpture design for UMBC students to build during the Fall 2022 semester.

Wearable Tech Ventures (WTV)- Global Youth Hackathon:Over the course of a week, middle and high school students will be immersed in Wearable Tech culture and encouraged to exercise their imagination to create interesting and innovative hacks and product ideas. WTV Global Youth Hackathon is not a typical hackathon: it's a registered 501c3 nonprofit providing a welcoming, engaging, and creative environment to support all students, girls, minorities and abilities alike. This annual gathering allows everyone ranging from beginners to seasoned hackers to explore technology and develop their skills as engineers, designers, and creators.
