Course Detail: WTLN241 - Lineworker Apprenticeship 4A

This hybrid, 75-hour course runs 15 weeks, 3 hours per week in a lab setting, and an additional 30 hours of training online. As a result of this training students will be able to define power factor and explain how it can be improved, troubleshoot a pad-mounted three-phase transformer and explain how switchgear can sectionalize and reroute power, locate primary and secondary faults and splice primary and secondary cables, identify hazards in substations and switchyards and the application of controls in a substation, and identify and safely work on 34.5KV lines?

Schedule: This is a Hybrid Course with online and in-person lab work. Canvas access will be 08/20/24-12/08/24 Lab work will be 08/21/24 to 12/04/24 from 6pm to 9pm on Wednesdays at either SLCC Miller Pole Yard, MCPC-123, or the St. George Power Training Yard. Please watch for communication in Canvas, from your employer, and from instructors for weekly specifics.

"This course is for registered apprentices with the Intermountain Power Superintendents Association (IPSA). As such SLCC will report student status, participation/attendance, and grade details to the IPSA. ** This is a 15-week Hybrid Course with online and in-person lab work; students should plan to attend 45 hours of labs and complete 30 hours of online coursework per semester as part of their Apprenticeship agreement. ** Students are responsible to ensure the instructor(s) mark them as present and participating in labs to get credit towards their apprenticeship hours.** In-person Labs will be held Wednesdays from 6-9pm at SLCC Miller Campus Miller Corporate Partnership Center Room 123, the Miller Electrical Sector Training Pole Yard, or the St. George Power Training Yard. Those unsure of which location to attend should contact their employer and/or the instructors.** Apprentices should expect and watch for notification from Canvas, their employer, or instructors for changes to the in-person lab schedule based upon outages, availability, and employer needs."
