Course Detail: WTLN122 - Lineworker Apprenticeship 2B

This hybrid, 75-hour course runs 15 weeks, 3 hours per week in a lab setting, and an additional 30 hours of training online. As a result of this training students will be able to demonstrate appropriate use of ammeters, voltmeters, and voltage testers, identify safety procedures, rigging considerations, and cuts used for clearing trees and limbs from power lines, inspect, remove, and replace a pole top capacitor, damaged fuse cutout, recloser, gang-operate switch, and transformer, demonstrate commitment to and awareness of safety practices, and articulate the considerations for transmission structure design.

Schedule: This is a Hybrid Course with online and in-person lab work. Online course work begins August 20, 2024 and ends at 11:59pm on Dec 8, 2024. Lab work will be 6pm to 9pm on Mondays beginning August 26 and ending December 2, 2024 at either SLCC Miller Pole Yard, MCPC-123, or the St. George Power Training Yard. Bulletin

This course is for registered apprentices with the Intermountain Power Superintendents Association (IPSA). As such SLCC will report student status, participate/attendance, and grade details to the IPSA. ** This is a 15-week Hybrid Course with online and in-person lab work; students should plan to attend 45 hours of labs and complete 30 hours of online coursework per semester as part of their Apprenticeship agreement. ** Students are responsible to ensure the instructor(s) mark them as present and participating in labs to get credit towards their apprenticeship hours.** In-person Labs will be held Mondays from 6-9pm at SLCC Miller Campus Miller Corporate Partnership Center Room 123, the Miller Electrical Sector Training Pole Yard, or the St. George Power Training Yard. Those unsure of which location to attend should contact their employer and/or the instructors.** Apprentices may receive notification from Canvas, their employer, or instructors for changes to the in-person lab schedule based upon outages, availability, and employer needs.
