Course Detail: WTET940 - Elementary Methods of Teaching Science
This 45-hour course meets 1 day a week for 8 weeks. As a result of this training participants will be able to explain the three dimensions of science instruction: DCIs, SEPs, and CCCs and how they help students make sense of authentic phenomena; participate in learning experiences through examination, engagement, and implementation of the three dimensions of science instruction, DCIs, SEPs, and CCCs, including the use of authentic phenomena; design lessons with clear goals and formative and summative assessments aligned to Utah Science with Engineering Education (SEEd) Standards or Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) including the use of phenomena; develop pedagogical practices and examine research that help students develop the disciplinary literacy needed to effectively speak, read, and write in science; and model practices and reflect on science instruction in the context of authentic student learning and engagement to promote equitable access to STEM and develop a culture that values risk-taking and learning from mistakes.
