Course Detail: WTEN630 - Foundations of Probability & Statistics for Secondary Teachers
This 45-hour course meets twice a week (for 1.5 hours per class session) for 15 weeks. As a result of this training, participants will be able to recognize and communicate; statistics as a science that includes asking questions, collecting data, using statistical methods to summarize the data, making inferences, forming conclusions, and making decisions; effectively summarize data and determine descriptive statistics by data type; calculate and interpret probabilities using the rules of probability, statistical distributions, and sampling distributions; apply and interpret the concepts of statistical inference including hypothesis testing and estimation using confidence intervals; perform and interpret a linear regression analysis; perform analyses using normal models, randomization, and simulation by using statistical software; and reflect on statistics and probability concepts and applications to design curriculum, assess student performance, and create IEPs at the secondary level.
