Beth Browne
Biography: Beth Browne is an award-winning Edwardsville, IL based visual artist. She received her BFA in 2003 with a focus in metalsmithing and Graphic Design at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). Serving as an exhibit specialist for 14 years at the Gateway Arch she gained a love of history, museum conservation, exhibit design and production experience but missed personal expression and building in metal. Finishing an MFA in 2021 in metalsmithing and textiles at SIUE she fell in love with making, learning and the sharing of knowledge.

Holiday Metalsmithing Gift Making Open Studio
This weekend open studio is designed to allow you to work on metalsmithing projects independently. An instructor will be available to answer questions and assist as needed. You will have access to the metalsmithing studio but must provide your own basic kit and metal materials.

Simple Earrings and Pendants
You will create a simple set of dangling earrings and pendant from sterling silver and brass metals. You will explore fabrication through cold connections, sawing and piercing, basic forming, annealing with a gas torch, texturing metal through hammer work, and exploring surface finishes to personalize their set.

Statement Earrings with Stones
In this hands-on weekend warrior intensive you will learn to fabricate your own statement earrings from sterling silver and cabochon stones. Techniques include sawing, piercing, texturing metal, high-temperature soldering with a gas torch, bezel setting a stone and surface finishing.

Metal Cuffs
You will create sterling silver and brass metal cuffs from thick stock wire. You will learn basic forming with sterling silver and brass wire, annealing with a gas torch, texturing metal through hammer work, and exploring surface finishes to personalize your cuffs.

While creating custom stacker rings, you will learn ring forming with heavy stock sterling silver and brass wire, soldering with a gas torch, stone setting in calibrated bezels, and exploring surface finishes to personalize your rings.
