This professional development workshop will review essential components of the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework and how they can be used to support students exhibiting responses to trauma. Discover how to use a problem-solving approach to address student externalizing and internalizing behaviors with universal, specific, and intensive social emotional supports. Case studies will focus on how to use data to best support students as they return to in person learning environments following COVID-19 virtual instruction.

Specific learning objectives:
  • Participants will develop an understanding of how trauma is present in schools, specifically through student behaviors that may be a result of COVID-19 pandemic and then return to in person learning.
  • Participants will engage in case studies to determine which assessments can be used to problem solve and determine the educational impact of trauma within the MTSS framework.
  • Participants will learn to establish tiers of intervention based on data sources and review potential strategies for supporting students social emotional learning and positive behavioral supports at universal, specific, and intensive levels.
