Course Detail: PIWS - Prisons in western society - historical and modern use

This presentation will discuss the historical development of prison in western society. From their beginnings in the late 1700s through modern issues in prisons today. The discussion will provide information regarding issues surrounding the development of prisons as a correctional practice and some of the modern issues (i.e. capital punishment, solitary confinement, etc.) related to prisons in American society today.
