Course Detail: LIRI - Irish Women Writers

Ireland has a rich and lengthy literary tradition, and much has been contributed to the canon via Irish writers, specifically Joyce, Yeats, O'Casey, etc. However rich this tradition may be, it has unfortunately neglected the body of work created by female Irish writers. This presentation examines the tradition of Irish women writers, and analyzes them from cultural and historical contexts. Some of the writers we will study include: Eavan Boland, Edith Somerville, Elizabeth Bowen, Edna O'Brien, Eileen Dubh O'Connell, Éilís Ní Dhuibhne, Frances Sheridan, Marina Carr, Lady Gregory, and Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill.

Sessions are $5 each for non-members and can be registered for individually. SIUE faculty, staff, and students can attend the Lifelong Learning Speaker Series for free.

If attendees prefer to attend virtually, please contact the program coordinator for the Zoom link. If there is a change in restrictions or guidelines, the Speaker Series will return to an online format, as needed.
