Introduction to Typography

Embark on a broad exploration of the art, science and craft of typography from a historic, cultural, technological and practical perspective. Gain exposure to the principles and reasoning behind the use of type as the medium for written language and content. Learn how to design typography for optimal reading, communication hierarchy, and graphic impact through a variety of real-world assignments and exercises. Understand approaches and perspectives on typographic practice from masters of the craft. Investigate type families and letter forms to understand terminology and analyze structure, style, and sensibility. Differentiate between analytic and optical methods for typographic design. Become fully conversant in the terminology, rationale and practice of typography in a wide range of business and creative contexts. Prerequisites: Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
