Fashion Immersion Studio

Build foundational skills in sewing, patterning, and draping while learning the vocabulary used in the making of fashion, clothing, and soft goods. This course provides an overview of various needle arts, including machine and hand sewing, as well as pattern making. Students will gain the fundamental skills in the industrial straight, overlock, purl, cover stitch and zigzag machines, industrial pressing equipment, as well as fundamental patternmaking skills.

Course Goals
  • Gain fluency and certify the student in the use of the Fashion sewing lab equipment
  • Learn the fundamentals of hand and machine sewing,
  • Learn the general properties of fibers and fabrics.
  • Become familiar with pattern making by manipulating slopers
Student Learning Outcomes
  • Gain fundamental knowledge in industrial sewing machines and pressing equipment.
  • Gain fundamental skills in hand sewing
  • Gain fundamental knowledge in pattern-making techniques
  • Apply learned sewing and textile skills to one's artistic practice
