Drawing Games

This two-day artmaking workshop will feature drawing games and rituals that will forever rid you of any fears of the blank white page! We will explore symbolic sigil drawing and surrealist games. In the1920's, sigil drawing was developed as a way to reach the subconscious mind, helping the creator to manifest their desires. Simultaneously, surrealist writers and artists were employing parlour games such as cadavre exquis (exquisite corpse) to stimulate chance occurrence and dream language. We will also draw from a series of Fluxus/Dada inspired prompts, relate to pop art through exploring everyday objects and draw from graffiti's traditions of gestural mark making. The short drawing exercises we explore provide each artist with tools for reimaging their art practice and to develop fun new practices and habits for daily drawing ritual.
