Drawing: Mastering the Figure

rawing: Mastering the FigureArt movements come and go, but the human presence ever and again captures the viewer's thoughts and emotions. The expressive, vulnerable, sometimes sensuous, and in-motion qualities of the body hold the potential to be both powerfully communicative and lyrical but also can also create serious obstacles for the artist. This series of short, lively, hands-on workshops will take an experimental approach to figure drawing. You will be guided through sketchbook exercises that will expand their range as well as identify potential problems so they can push past them. You'll explore both the technical, visual and creative issues surrounding drawing the human form. These include simplifying anatomy, working from sources other than life (such as memory, anatomy, and photographs), manipulating light and shade; issues of scale, space, proportion, perspective, weight and visual "push-pull."Weekly posting of work and feedback. Prior drawing experience is highly recommended.
