Post-Pandemic Cities

As we enter the brave new post-pandemic world, there will be many questions about how to cities should be designed. There will be tension between those who prefer a suburban style system with built-in social distancing, and those who value the connections cities have to offer: access to parks, quiet streets, wide sidewalks, a continuous bike network, and uncrowded transit. Living during a lockdown has shown how nice cities can be without traffic. The air is cleaner, streets are less noisy, walking to the store for provisions not only supports the local economy but also is exercise. This seminar will discuss ways to that urban design and green mobility can contribute to healthier cities.
