Create Your Own Comics: Get Started with Sequential Storytelling

Do you love comics and have always wanted to make them? Or do you have a comic you've already drawn and don't know what to do next? If you're burning to do a superhero comic, a slice-of-life strip, a horror graphic novel, a romance webcomic, or any other amazing sequential story idea, this class can help you bring your project to life.

Many of the biggest IPs in the world started as comics. From Webtoon's Lore Olympus being optioned for a Netflix series to Alison Bechdel's graphic novel Funhome becoming a Broadway hit, creator-owned comics can be a springboard to building a global platform and substantial fan base.

You'll learn how to:
  • Come up with your original concept,
  • Assess how your story fits into the current genres,
  • Develop and refine your character design and overall look,
  • Build your story, including world-building, dialogue, and creating a series story arc,
  • Master nuts and bolts like penciling, inking, lettering, storyboarding, and coloring,
  • Get an overview of digital and print publishing options,
  • Learn social media and marketing tips.
At the end of this course you'll have an original, finished, multi-page comic, suitable for print, online distribution as a webcomic, or online portfolio.

Tools: Applications covered (but not required) will include Photoshop, Illustrator, Procreate, and Clip Studio Paint, as well as basic image scanning and proper image resolutions, formats, and color modes.

Note: No drawing skills are necessary for this class -- you'll learn ways to develop comics using photography, stick figures, or other methods
