Book Illustration: Picture Book

Learn the art of illustrating a story idea and how to make your artwork in the versatile picture book format. Discover the joy and satisfaction of creating your art for young audiences. Concentrate on elements that can help you develop the tools you need. Learn about the business and the physical process of creating a picture book. Topics covered include character development, art continuity, setting, pacing and rhythm, layout and structure, finding and polishing an art style, and knowing your audience. The course will involve home assignments, some in-class exercises, critique, and class discussion. All to help you succeed in this exciting form of illustration. By the end of the class, students will prepare a Storyboard or Book Dummy and a full color sample of a page of the book.
