Course Detail: YES-6000 - Historical Fiber Arts (Grades 6-8)

Fiber arts are some of the oldest skills people have ever used. Long before there were books or writing, humans were already spinning, weaving, knotting, and felting to make clothes, tools, and decorations. People around the world have used fibers from plants, animals, and even man?made materials to create useful and beautiful things, and each culture has its own special traditions.

In this hands?on class, students get to explore fiber arts from many different cultures. Through fun, simple projects like finger loop braiding, weaving, felting, knotting/crocheting, knitting, and cross stitching, students learn how people in the past created everyday items and artwork using natural materials. No experience is needed, just curiosity and imagination! Students will build new art skills, learn about different cultures, and gain confidence while enjoying the experience of making something with their own hands.
