Data and Analytics for Economic Developers Course Description
Limited resources and increasing global competition make data driven decision making an economic development imperative.  This course will provide a foundation for data analysis to support the policy making process including commonly used sources of data, fundamentals of analysis and visualization and presentation techniques.  Course attendees will learn to identify key performance indicators, how to provide context for analysis, and how to leverage insights for future economic development strategies.

Learning Objectives

1.    Develop an understanding of contextualizing data
2.    Use data to develop a community profile and deeper understanding of community trends
3.    Become familiar with commonly used data sources
4.    Be able to present data to a general audience


North Carolina Certified Economic Developer Program
The ECU Economic Development Academy offers the North Carolina Certified Economic Developer Program for economic development personnel, elected officials, business leader and others interested in the field of economic development.

Offered in partnership with the ECU College of Business, Department of Political Science, and Academic Outreach, Continuing and Distance Education, the program provides practical knowledge concerning the practice of economic development in the State of North Carolina.

Certification requirements include completion of seven (7) courses and a capstone project.

While successfully completing the course of study will lead to the North Carolina Certified Economic Developer designation, selected courses may be taken as desired without formal matriculation in the certification program.
