Training Information: CED-0910 - Apple Tree Pruning

This training provides essential skills for successful apple tree pruning, combining technical instruction with hands-on application. Participants will learn proper tool usage, including techniques for using pneumatic pruners, Sawzall, and loppers effectively and safely. The course covers pruning for optimal tree height, improving airflow, and reducing disease risks. Attendees will also gain insights into the best times and areas for pruning to encourage healthy growth and fruit production. Additionally, the training includes methods for managing older, neglected trees and identifying and removing dead, diseased, or damaged wood to promote overall tree health. Students will have the opportunity to apply these skills in the orchard at Vermont State University, gaining valuable practical experience.
