Paradigm of European Romanticism

The Romantic Era followed the French Revolution and the rule of Napoleon in European History. The tumultuous life of French poet, novelist and political figure Victor Hugo reflected many of the historical forces at play during this era. We will consider his biography and writings in the context of the fascinating era from 1815 to 1848.

Carl Schott
Biography: Carl Schott, PhD European History, University of Notre Dame, served as a military intelligence officer and taught at Heidelberg University. His most recent nonfiction book, Mission to Saint Petersburg, is based on original research in 19th century diplomatic correspondence and memoirs. He has published three historical mystery novels.
