Certificate Programs

Regardless of your educational background, the USF Certificate Programs provide both experienced and newer safety professionals important workplace knowledge and practical experience regarding safety and safety standards. Participants will enjoy a fulfilling learning experience and gain the skills necessary to create solutions for workplace safety challenges.

IMPORTANT: Professional certificates for Maritime, General, and Construction Industries expire every two years. To maintain certification, you must receive 5 CEU’s from USF OTIEC every two years. Public sector certificates do not expire.

In order to maintain a Professional Certificate for the Construction Industry credentials, it is necessary to complete five (5) Continuing Education Units (CEU) every two years.

If you have completed the required five (5) CEUs before the expiration of your current Professional Certificate for the Professional Certificate for the Construction Industry, please select this course.  Then please notify the University of South Florida OSHA Training Institute Education Center so that the necessary paperwork can be completed and the new certificate issued.

Certificate fee is nonrefundable. Policies, procedures, and certificate requirements are subject to change without notice. Any rules, regulations, or discounts prior to August 2016 are not valid. The certificate program for Safety & Health Fundamentals supports OSHA's mission by training employees in occupational safety and health to reduce incident rates for workers in state and local governments. Although this program was primarily designed for employees, it is available for anyone interested in furthering their knowledge of occupational safety and health.

Participants may earn a safety-training certificate for Construction after successfully completing a minimum of seven courses, comprised of a minimum of 68 contact hours of training. Participants can choose from a variety of topics such as occupational safety and health standards for the construction or general industry, safety and health management, accident investigation, fall hazard awareness, and recordkeeping.

Courses for the certificate program for Safety & Health Fundamentals can be taken with any of the OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Education Centers nationwide qualify.

Participants must complete a minimum of seven courses, comprised of required and elective courses, that include a minimum of 77 contact hours of training through OTI Education Center courses to earn the certificate in Safety & Health Fundamentals for General Industry

Participants must complete the three Required Courses as listed here for a minimum of 48 contact hours of training. Participants must complete a minimum of four Elective Courses from the General Industry list that includes a minimum of 29 contact hours of training.
