Course Title: (HIS203) BLUFFTON 101: HISTORIC PRESERVATION IN THE HEART OF THE LOWCOUNTRY
Led by Glen Umberger, the Historic Preservationist for the Town of Bluffton, this course will focus on the Old Town Bluffton Historic District and its historic resources (the architecturally significant collection of vernacular residential and commercial buildings) that show the evolution of Bluffton from an antebellum resort village to a thriving commercial center in the nineteenth century, and from a sleepy one-square-mile town at the dawn of the twentieth century to the present-day 54-square-mile town. We will explore how the Town actively maintains these resources for future generations.
