T&L 2900: VIR: Becoming a Resilient Educator: Self-Care Strategies and Tactics to Avoid Teacher Burnout
Teachers suffer more stress than other workers, according to the National Foundation for Educational Research. A recent survey of over 5,000 teachers from the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence revealed that the most frequent emotion teachers feel every day is anxiety. More and more, teachers are feeling increasingly stressed, burned-out, and dissatisfied with their career. In this course, participants will be examining their current self-care practices. They will learn how to manage stress and anxiety, find ways to effectively practice mindfulness, work to develop a self-care plan, and create a self-care vision for the future. Participants will work to practice and prioritize self-care strategies to manage workloads, maintain healthy stress levels, and avoid burnout. Participants, where possible, will employ these strategies at home and in the workplace, share the results with each other in interactive online discussion communities.
