OL101 Now I Get It! English Language Opera (OLLI Shares)
In this course, we will explore operas that were written in the English language. From Baroque composer Henry Purcell to today's Terrence Blanchard, we'll learn about interesting composers and librettists, great stories of the operas and amazing music. The excuse that "I don't understand Italian" is no longer an excuse to not love opera!

Books are filled with clever quips about aging, but do they have real lessons to offer about health, happiness and relationships? The instructors will look to science and philosophy to examine what these quotes on aging have to offer.

OL104 The History, Science and Art of Fountain Pens
This course covers the development of the fountain pen - from the reed/quill of ancient days to the practical modern pen. The class will look at scientific principles (metallurgy, surface tension, capillary action and air pressure) that determine a successful pen and will examine the ingredients of ink from ancient to modern. What makes an ink bulletproof? What types of paper are most suitable for writing with a pen and why? After the last class, participants are encouraged to bring their favorite pen(s) to share with the class.

OL105 Survey and History of Fountain Pen Manufacturers
This is a continuation of the OLLI course "The History, Science and Art of Fountain Pens." It will look at major pen producers and the history behind the company. Examples are Parker, Montblanc, Lamy and Waterman. Although not strictly necessary, it is helpful if you have taken the first "Fountain Pens" course.

OL118: Bottom Rail on Top:Abraham Lincoln's Evolving Stance on Slavery from 1861 - 1863 (OLLI Shares)
Known as the "Great Emancipator," Abraham Lincoln personally hated the institution of slavery, but, as the consummate politician and constitutionalist, had long questioned how best to deal with it. This course will trace some of his more memorable speeches from 1837 to 1863 as he struggled to come to grips with the essential problem that was tearing the Union apart. Through his words, this course will help us trace his evolution of thought.
