Course Detail: WTMD910 - Introduction to Medical Device Industry

Course Description: This 18-hour course meets one day per week for 3 hours, over a 6- week period. This course provides an overview of the medical device industry, particularly in Utah. It will address topics including diversity of products, size and scope of the industry, current trends, and the product life cycle from conception to market approval and distribution. As a result of this training, the student will be able to explain how a medical device product moves through development, manufacturing, and marketing; research and present on the diversity of biomedical companies in Utah, the medical devices they produce, and key jobs in the medical device industry; explain why FDA-mandated Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), quality systems, and safety are important.This course is one of four, in the Medical Device Manufacturing Processes and Practices Certificate program. Upon successful completion of the certificate, students will qualify for entry-level positions, including Quality Technician, Quality Inspector, and Quality Assurance Inspector.
