Course Detail: WTIA110 - Medical Interpreter - Arabic

This 8-week course meets twice a week, 3 hours per class, for a total of a state mandated 48-hours of training to be eligible to apply for a Tier-2 Medical Interpreter license. This course prepares learners with bilingual English/Arabic proficiency to provide entry-level medical interpreting services. As a result of this training students will be able to facilitate accurate and transparent communication in interpreting sessions using basic medical terminology for the human body, medical symptoms, and basic medical instructions; apply the Medical Interpreter Code of Ethics, HIPAA privacy rules, Utah Mandatory Reporting rules, and professional standards for medical interpreters; demonstrate effective intervention skills with medical professionals and patient; and demonstrate cultural competency in medical interpreting communications.

Schedule: Class will be Wednesdays & Saturdays from 08/07/2024-09/28/2024. Class meets the first three Saturdays from 10am - 2pm (08/10/24, 08/17/24,08/24/24). There will be no class held on Saturday, 08/31/2024 due to Labor Day weekend. The remaining Saturdays will be 10am - 1pm and Wednesdays will be from 6pm - 9pm.
