Course Detail: WTED810 - Classroom Climate that Promotes Student Learning

This 30-hour course meets 1 day a week for 8 weeks. As a result of this training students will be able to create and apply strategies to develop a learning climate that is sensitive to multiple experiences and backgrounds, including trauma informed practices and restorative practices; plan and diagram a strategically organized classroom setting that optimizes student learning. Additionally, students will assess individual philosophy of teaching to align with respect and value for racial, cultural, and linguistic differences; acknowledge that all students are capable of learning; respond to the physical and emotional concerns of the student; and be aware of other personal biases/values that impact the learning climate of the classroom. Finally, students will apply strategies to involve their students in establishing clear guidelines for behavior that respect and value differences, promote an organized and safe learning environment, and align with schoolwide expectations; and explain how consistent classroom routines and well-established procedures encourage a predictable and functional classroom where students feel safe to take risks, participate, and engage.
