Course Detail: IVTP - Intravenous Therapy for Licensed Practical Nurses

IV Therapy is a 30 hour course that is comprised to 25 hours of self study and 5 hours of IV therapy skills demonstration under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The course includes the following topics in accordance with Chapter 64B9-12 Aspects of Intravenous Therapy Outside the Scope of Practice of the LPN.

1. Initiation of blood and blood product

2. Initiation of administration of cancer chemotherapy

3. Initiation of plasma expanders

4. Initiation or administration of investigational drugs

5. Mixing IV solutions

6. IV pushes, except heparin flushes and saline flushes

7. Care of patients receiving IV therapy
