Course Detail: IWPA - Inspiring Women in Public Administration Conference

The Inspiring Women in Public Administration Conference brings together women each year for a day of skills-building, connection and renewal. We work to inspire and support women working in public service to not only remain in public service careers but also to seek out leadership opportunities.

Join us for our 2023 conference! This year's theme for the Inspiring Women in Public Administration conference is "Sharing Fortitude." Join us for a day of learning, sharing, and networking as we discuss courage, emotional labor, and women's representation in leadership in the public sector.

We are thrilled to announce our keynote speaker, Marney Babbitt-Pierce M.Ed., CDTLF. Marney will be sharing the most significant findings from Brené Brown’s latest research relating to courage as a collection of four skill sets that are teachable, measurable, and observable. The Dare to Lead™ program focuses on developing these courage-building skills through workshops, to help individuals, teams, and organizations move from armored leadership to daring leadership. For more information about Marney, please visit her website to learn more about her!

In addition, we are thrilled to have faculty members from the KU School of Public Affairs and Administration: Dr. Nicole Humphrey and Dr. Heather Getha-Taylor. In the morning Dr. Humphrey will present on "Emotional Labor and Employee Outcomes. Do Expectations of Emotional Labor in the Workplace Burden Women to a Greater Extent?" as well as lead a panel discussion. This conversation is something you will not want to miss.

In the afternoon, Dr. Getha-Taylor will share her research "Milestones and Mishaps on the Road to Leadership Gender Equity". Following the presentation, we will have refreshments and reflection on the day's information and a commitment to continue the work.
