Jack Kirby: The Man Who Created the Future

Presented by Knowledge Exchange Volunteer Advisory Committee Member and Class Leader, Jerome Julian.

Jack Kirby (b. 1917, d. 1994) may be the most important artist you have never heard of!

Here's a few clues: Iron Man. Captain America. Thor. Spiderman. The Avengers. The X-Men.

Kirby was a comic book artist who, along with a few collaborators including Marvel Comics' Stan Lee, invented, or co-created, the characters named above. Beyond that, Kirby was a visionary, with his dynamic artistic style influencing a whole generation of comics creators and films, including George Lucas' Star Wars. He later split with Stan Lee and Marvel in a public and acrimonious lawsuit, but not before paving a new road with animation and graphic novels.

Learn about the tough kid from New York's Hell's Kitchen that blazed new horizons as well as the cosmos, with his amazing and ground-breaking artistry and storytelling.
