Course Detail: GCAR-2046 - Ceramics I
Daytime classes (1800) are credit classes. Nighttime classes (1900) are a more community environment. Explore the basics of the ceramic process, from hand building to the potter's wheel. Some supplies are provided, but students will need to purchase additional supplies. A supply list will be given to you on the first class meeting. By the end of the semester Ceramics I students will successfully learn and apply hand building and wheel throwing techniques sufficiently enough to create ceramics intended for utilitarian purpose. Students who successfully complete the course should be able to identify at least 5 major artists that have contributed to ceramic art traditions from historic to contemporary periods. Students will be asked to demonstrate their critical thinking skills by discussing their art works using the language of the art elements and principles of design reviewed over the course of the semester.Students who are 65+ years of age and who live in-district qualify for a Senior Citizen discount of 50%.
