The Galveston College program, comprised of two Occupational Skills awards which combine for a Level One Certification, is taught at the Ball High School automotive and diesel technology lab. This program is open to interested students of all ages.Students who complete both courses of Diesel Engine Testing and Repair and both courses in Automotive Climate Controls earn a Level One Certification from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Level 1 Certificate.This is a two semester program (three classes each) for 360 total hours. Successful completer of the six courses will earn a state recognized Level 1 Certification.Fall Semester: Medical Terminology I, Basic Medical Assistant Technology, A&P for Medical Assistants.Spring Semester: Advanced MA; Pharmacology for Health Professions; Clinical Practicum
Students who are already as Certified Nurse Aide and who have successfully completed certification from the NHA in EKG and Phlebotomy are eligible to enroll in this course and obtain a Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) certification from the National Healthcare Association (NHA).The PCT course is a capstone course that allows you the opportunity to get the credentials needed to work as a Patient Care Tech in most major medical facilities. The course reviews the skills needed by aides, EKG techs and phlebotomists. It expands on the previous NHA level certifications to encompass patient care of all ages in both the clinical and hospital setting. Students review how to assist patients in the acute care setting with activities of daily living; measure vital signs; communicate effectively with patients, family members, and staff.Cost of the course includes one attempt at the Certified Patient Care Tech (CPCT) exam which will be scheduled with and given in our testing center. Certification is through National Healthcare Association: www.nhanow.com. The exam will be scheduled by the instructor and is non-refundable and non-transferable. Students who complete this pathway earn a Level 1 Certification.This program is TPEG grant eligible. Study guide is included in the tuition. Students must meet the healthcare program requirements and have a valid BLS-CPR card prior to enrolling in the course. Students must also present valid nurse aide license, EKG and phlebotomy certs prior to enrollment.
Students can earn a Level 1 Certificate with successful completion of this two-semester program. The course covers how to comply with safety and hazardous material handling procedures; perform basic automotive service procedures; and maintain shop equipment. This program is eligible for TPEG funds and a payment plan.
Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Level 1 CertificateThis three-semester program features classroom instruction, hands-on- training and client service internships.
