This course is for the experienced ESL educator and/or content area educator with ESL certification. This course assumes the educator has knowledge of ESL pedagogy, as well as experiences working with a population of immigrant students. The engaging text models integrating story telling with students to improve literacy as well as create connections with language learners, developing an ideal classroom environment to maximize student literacy outcomes.
All students should be supported in school socially & emotionally as they develop through their childhood, yet multilingual learners often have particularly challenging circumstances and/or trauma that can affect the educational experience. This course is for teachers of any content area, K-14, who are interested in improving the social & emotional development of multilingual learners simultaneously while they meet content and language targets.
Learn to remember. Remember to learn. Learn to apply Sprenger's 7 stages of learning/memory and Marzano's strategies to develop academic language and retain information. Content is applicable, K-12, all curriculum areas and fully aligns with the Common Core Standards (CCSS) to support development of language, reading and literacy skills.
