Course Description: CHN 101: Mandarin Chinese I - Live-streamed

This course introduces Mandarin Chinese language presented within the context of Chinese culture. First course of a three-course sequence. Introduces students to the sound system of Mandarin Chinese and moves on to basic skills in listening, speaking, reading, and copying a limited number of Chinese characters. The instructor will provide all reading materials. This is a college-level course. Although assignments, tests, and quizzes are optional for Community Education students, you will be expected to fully participate. A textbook may be required for this course. Please check with the COCC Bookstore. This is a non-credit Community Education class. You will not receive college credit.

Additional Course Information

This class is lived streamed from the Bend campus. Students on the Madras, Redmond, or Prineville campuses will attend class with a facilitator present and use a camera and microphone to interact with the instructor and classmates.

This is a hybrid class. These courses use different tools like Zoom or Canvas (COCC's online learning management system) for instruction. Students may also attend class at certain times, either in person or from home.

Students must cancel by contacting our office via phone: (541) 383-7270 or email: ceinfo@cocc.edu. Cancellations received 5 days prior to the start of the class will receive a full refund. Full refunds are also issued for classes cancelled by COCC. Refunds will be issued back to your card or in the form of a check and mailed within two weeks of the cancellation date if paid by check or cash.
