Introduces students to the sound system of Mandarin Chinese and moves on to basic skills in listening, speaking, reading, and copying a limited number of Chinese characters. Develops fundamental language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) in communicative context. Prerequisites: CHN 101. This is a non-credit Community Education class. CHN 141: Chinese Culture Through Film
This course introduces the history, politics, society, and economy of China through viewing and analyzing cinema. Examines how traditional Asian visual arts and centuries-old cultural tradition influenced filmmakers. No background in Chinese languages is required. This is a non-credit Community Education class. You will not receive college credit.

CHN 201: 2nd Year Mandarin Chinese I
The first course of a three-course sequence in intermediate Mandarin Chinese language and culture. This course will focus on effective communication in the Mandarin Chinese language, emphasizing both the written and spoken language, as well as an understanding of the practices and products of Chinese culture. Particular attention will be given to exploring the relationship between Chinese language, literature, philosophy, and culture. This is a non-credit Community Education class. You will not receive college credit. Prerequisites: CHN 103.
