Course Title: (HIS202) THE SOUTHERN CAMPAIGN IN THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR

Following the failure to subjugate the Northern colonies, British strategic aims shifted to the South. This talk traces the campaign in South Carolina, beginning with the British attempt to take Charleston in June 1776, the capture of Savannah in December 1778, and concluding with Charleston's fall in May 1780. With control of the coast secured and the American army retreating inland, the British launched a pursuit that ultimately led to Yorktown, where Cornwallis was besieged by American forces and a French fleet-his surrender sparking continued partisan conflict in South Carolina.
