Course Title: (HIS304) THE PATRIOT AND FRANCIS MARION: Fact vs Fiction

Join us as we celebrate America 250 and one of South Carolina's greatest heroes with a viewing of The Patriot, starring Mel Gibson. Gibson's character is inspired by South Carolina's most honored Revolutionary hero, Francis Marion, known as The Swamp Fox. Our session will begin with a very brief introduction to Francis Marion, the real patriot, and will conclude with a Q&A.

Participants will be encouraged to keep pen and paper ready during the movie and note aspects of the story, as told by Hollywood, that they believe are true or the result of creative license. We'll compare notes in the post-movie discussion and reveal the facts and fiction in the movie's depiction.
